But why?

Okay gents, listen up. I’m getting ready to go on a rant, jump on a soap box, and explain why the hell I am doing what I do. First off, let me not be rude and introduce myself. My name is Joe, and I am a dermatology healthcare professional. Yes, I see patients. I diagnose rashes, write prescriptions, treat acne, perform skin cancer screenings, excise skin cancers and much more. All while educating my patients and dispelling all kinds of crappy misinformation out there. I am also a veteran, Ooh-rah! a man, father, and husband. I also spent years before practicing medicine in advertising and marketing. So, I am acutely aware of all the messaging and marketing regarding the skincare industry.

That being said, I have reached a breaking point. I am SO TIRED of everything I see and hear regarding skin health and skincare being directed solely towards women. Men are being pushed out of the conversation because women have the purchasing power when it comes to skincare products. That and all the marketing is meant for women (or young pubescent men).

This is the reason why I have created The Skin of Men.

There is no one directly speaking to the man who has a big-boy job, sweats at a job site, puts out fires, catches perps, breaks his back and hands to help support himself and his family. Where the hell is the information for those guys??? It’s hidden or it’s been pushed so far in the background that if a man brings up moisturizer for his hands or his body the fear is that he will sprout a vagina and become a woman.

This is where I come in. I talk with men EVERY SINGLE DAY about skin health and things that they can do to improve this area of their life. To approach skin health as maintenance. Same way they would change oil on their car, CLP their handgun, or spend time with their family. Men are different and you must approach these subjects and solutions in a different way. My job, my passion, and my calling is to change this narrative. I want to speak directly to you. I want men to be able to ask questions and to speak about skin health the same way they would talk about bench press techniques and not worry about how they are being perceived. Have information that is medically accurate and Unapologetically Male! Most of the skincare products are designed for women in mind. I will tackle this and many other issues.

I hope you join me on my journey. I am doing this for you. You deserve attention and to be educated properly because people rely on you. You must take care of yourself, and I give you permission to be a little selfish in regard to your skin health. Because if your hands are so dry and cracked and bleeding that you can’t swing a hammer or type on a keypad, you are putting your health and your family at risk. Do it for you. Do it for them. Let’s go. And let’s GET SOM!
